The Short List....
The following short list of
games do not have any release dates. While other sites may speculate, the
companies are NOT giving out specific release dates. Actually, it's a bit more
complicated than this...
You see, there are two people
you can deal with in most companies to get a release date. The first person, and
the people I deal with mostly, are the Public Relations people. These are the
people that know the dates most of the time.
There is indeed another
source for Release Dates inside most major Publishing Houses. These are people
a guy like Rich LaPorte doesn't get to talk to. Their title? Sales managers.
The Sales Division is responsible for making sure there are retail chains and
companies looking to put their product on the shelves. These people are have
less restrictions placed on them when dealing with Retailers than PR people do
when dealing with magazines or websites.
When the purchasing manager
of K-Mart, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, CompUSA, or Electronics Boutique is thinking of
buying 30,000 units of product "A" and asks the sales department
"What's your target date?" rest assured he or she is not told
"When it's done."
But we are. The key here is
what is correct. Is this sales person fudging dates to ease the mind of the
purchasing agent? Wouldn't be the first time in any business that's happened.
Most business have expeditors just for this reason, but not something that can
be done in the Computer Games Business I guess.
Instead of guessing and
getting aggravated with every change, these titles will stay on this list as
the developers wishes them to stay, until the magic two words are said... Gone
Gold.
