Dedicated teachers are the cornerstone of our program. All
are graduates of excellent universities and many with advanced
degrees. In addition, almost all members of our faculty and
their families live on campus, either in dormitory apartments
or in other faculty housing, thus creating a 24-hour-a-day
atmosphere that fosters a sense of interdependence, community
and family.
This close proximity allows faculty members to get to know
their students, not just as pupils, but as individuals. At
Saint Thomas More School, classroom instruction is only the
beginning of a teacher's job. Our teachers also inspire, motivate
and encourage the young men entrusted to our care. It is their
careful attention, their willingness to go the extra mile,
that ensures that our students keep up with their daily workload,
or catch up if they lag behind.
In addition to their daily contact in the classroom, teachers
and their families also interact with students in the dining
hall, in the gymnasium and on the playing fields. They supervise
evening study hall, coach sports, chaperone dances, monitor
the dining hall, take students on trips, organize clubs, and participate in the life of the school in a myriad of other ways.
In the Advisor-Advisee Program each teacher works closely with
a small group of students, meeting regularly throughout the
year. In their role of advisor, teachers are able to keep track
of their advisees' progress, offer counsel and advice on issues
of importance to them, and maintain open communication with
parents.
