"All labor that uplifts
humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking
excellence." Relief for Papua New Guinea! On July 17th, a magnitude 7 earthquake
occurred off the northwest coast of Papua New Guinea. Approximately 10 minutes after the
earthquake, the first of three tsunami waves, two of which were over 25 feet high, came
ashore along a 35km front in the Sandaun province of Papua New Guinea. Most of the
villages and buildings in the path of these tsunami waves were completely destroyed. Of
the 9000+ people living in this region, over 2,100 people are still missing.
From Jun 1 through July 22, more than 220 fires
destroyed almost 500,000 acres in Florida; 179 people were injured; 330 homes were
destroyed; and over 33 businesses were either destroyed or damaged.

MAP & Industry Respond to Kenya Bombing Two bombs ripped through the US embassies in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on August 7 and resulted in 257 people dead, including 12 Americans. More than 5,500 were injured. Through the collaboration of the industry and MAP International, $65,000 of lifesaving medicines and medical supplies were immediately airlifted to the region. Kenya's Minister of Health, Mr. Jackson Kalweo, was at Nairobi's international airport to personally receive the donation of disaster modules, completely bypassing the normal channels of customs which usually takes serveral days. The first supplies began to arrive the day after the bombings. Receiving the medicines with Mr. Kalweo was MAP's East Africa Director, Dr. Peter Okaalet. Dr. Okaalet told the Health Minister that MAP would continue assisting the blast victims as long as help was needed. "Thank you very much for your assistance to us, " Mr. Kalweo said to the MAP staff. We, in turn, thank the industry for making this urgent response possible.
