OFFICIAL LUCASFILM STAR WARS FAN EVENT

This will occur April 30th, May 1st, and May 2nd 1999 in Denver, Colorado at the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum. Guests will include Rick McCallum, Terry Brooks, Anthony Daniels, Ray Park, Warwick Davis, Hugh Quarshie, and more. Full scale X-Wings and Naboo N-1 Fighters will be on display along with items from the Lucasfilm archives, behind the scenes footage from Episode I, a store with exclusive merchandise, and more. FYI, The Motor City Comic Con (May 14,15,16 [one week before Episode 1!]) will feature a vast array of Star Wars actors and actresses this spring--including Billy Dee Williams, Kenny Baker, David Prowse, Warwick Davis, Femi Taylor, and Sam Davis (Jedi Council member). Non-Star Wars guests include Jonathan Harris, Dr. Smith from Lost in Space, Jeri Ryan, 7 of 9 from Star Trek: Voyager, Tom Savini, Kane Hodder, Robert Krimmer, John Russo, and Frank Gorshin. The Force is with E-Town

Human-cyborg relations in Edmonton are about to take a turn for the better.

British actor Anthony Daniels, known to gazillions of Star Wars fans as the tall, gold protocol droid C-3PO, is slated to be coming here for one of Canada's first major Star Wars conventions in more than a decade.

Daniels will be the guest of honour at Skywalk, a Star Wars-themed science fiction convention set to run the weekend of April 10-11 at the Shaw Conference Centre, 9797 Jasper Ave.

Skywalk is the brainchild of Edmonton-based Millennium Promotions, the people behind last fall's successful Sector 001 sci-fi convention with Deep Space Nine's Nicole deBoer.

Daniels, who will reprise the role of C-3PO in the much anticipated Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, will likely be a sizzling hot property on the convention circuit with the May 21 release of the prequel just months away.

Snippets of the theatrical trailer for the new Star Wars film appear to show C-3PO in a half-built form, with his wires and mechanical workings visible.

"See-Threepio is really a very lovable character, which is one reason why I stuck with him," Daniels said shortly after the release of 1983's Return of the Jedi, the last movie in George Lucas's original Star Wars trilogy.

"He has the manners and qualities of a well-bred, well-paid, high-class English butler."

Another high-profile Star Wars convention takes place next weekend in Montreal. Among the film alumni in attendance will be David Prowse, the man behind Darth Vader's mask.

In addition to Daniels's appearance here at Skywalk, the convention will feature more than two dozen exhibitor booths in an area adjacent to the cavernous Hall A where most of the activity will take place.

On the Saturday night of the convention, a costume ball will be held in "Jabba's Palace" in a separate area of the conference centre.

Tickets for Skywalk haven't yet gone on sale (as of 1/20/99), but will be available through Ticketmaster outlets and at Tix on the Square. Attendees will also be asked to bring a donation for the Edmonton Food Bank.

According to a number of sources, the Visual Effects Society's ``VES '99: A Festival of Visual Effects'' will take place June 4-6 at the Leonard H. Goldenson Theater of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood. Scheduled to be in attendance to give one-hour seminars each will be: ILM senior visual f/x supervisor Dennis Muren, animation supervisor Rob Coleman and visual f/x supervisors John Knoll and Scott Squires.

The festival will also feature presentations and seminars by Jim Henson's Creature Shop and Sony Picture Imageworks.
