From jericho@attrition.org Mon May 10 18:05:15 2004 From: security curmudgeon To: paypal-compliance@paypal.com Cc: legal@attrition.org Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 13:10:39 -0400 (EDT) Subject: PayPal employees and libel It has come to my attention that employees of Paypal are telling Attrition members that Attrition.org is "selling pornography". This allegation is entirely false and constitutes libel. Attrition.org does not sell any product, especially pornography, and never has. We are a non profit site dedicated to computer security research and security related projects (not products). The web page your staff is attempting to portray as "pornography sales" can be found at http://www.attrition.org/attrition/wallpaper/. Please note on this page: "the following wallpapers are available for free" "Use this for .. (provided you do not profit off it)." "You are welcome to use these images for non-commercial purposes only" Further, this page is maintained by attrition.org staff and has nothing to do with any user accounts on this machine. Attempting to hold our users responsible for this content is absurd and indicative that PayPal staff don't grasp the basic concepts of domains, web sites and web pages. Does PayPal automatically lock the accounts of every customer who has a yahoo.com account for a point of contact? If not, you should, as content on yahoo.com is clearly obscene and much of it is for sale. This double standard your staff employs on a whim is nothing short of harassment to attrition members and libel towards attrition.org staff. From this time on, refrain from making such comments to anyone aside from Attrition.org staff. Brian Martin
