Secureroot Computer Security Resource Defaced

Thu, 27 Dec 2001 12:06:03 -0500 (EST)

Secureroot (http://secureroot.com/) was defaced on December 26. According to the defacement, "r00t-access crew" had compromised the system roughly six months ago, and had gone unnoticed. Secureroot is part of the "m4d" network which also includes Medialeech (medialeech.com) and m4d (m4d.com). Secureroot is one of many About Network portal sites. At the time of this commentary, m4d.com is still defaced. The defacer(s) included this message which may indicate why they just now changed the front page: "btw- your site was cool until you stoppedupdatingit."

More on About Networks:

Each site in our unique network is run by a professional Guide who is carefully screened and trained by About. Guides build a comprehensive environment around each of their specific topics, including the best new content, relevant links, How-To's, Forums, and answers to just about any question.

The About network consists of hundreds of Guide sites neatly organized into 23 channels. The sites cover more than 50,000 subjects with over 1 million links to the best resources on the Net and the fastest-growing archive of high quality original content. Topics range from pregnancy to cars, palm pilots to painting, weight loss to video game strategies. No one has greater depth and breadth than About.
