(hhp) mIRC@EFnet advisory. (hhp) hhp-ADV#5 by: loophole hhp@hhp.perlx.com 11/3/99 12:29:58pm CST. ---------------------------------------------------------- Alright to my knowledge there is another mIRC bug. The max channel length allowed in mIRC is 90 characters (Including the '#'). The max channel length on EFnet is 200 characters(Including the '#'). If an mIRC user trys to join a channel longer than 90 chars, it receives this line in the status window: >"#ChanName-longer-than-90-characters End of /NAMES list." The bug is that when mIRC attempts to join the channel, it blindly joins and parts the channel to receive the names list. If you join the channel in another client such as BitchX, you will notice the join/part of the mIRC user. Also, if you attempt to invite an mIRC user to a channel with a name longer than 90 characters it does'nt echo the invite to your status/or current upheld window. Which could probably be used as a blind target-side DoS attack if you sent enough invites to the target fast enough, either resulting in an access flood, or a ping timeout not being able to respond to the server fast enough(I don't know how IRCd handles invites as far as access flooding goes.) Anyway, not that big of a deal, just wanted to let the bug be known to the books in other words. -hhp-2t0--------------------------------------------------
