Subject: May I ask a Web site question?

Hi folks,

I assume that by addressing this to staff it will go to all of you. If that's incorrect
then please let me know.

I have a question about web sites if I may but, first let me give a brief description of
what I want to do, then the question. I promise I won't ask to create / cancel an account
or ask for a password to hotmail.

Here's what I want to do.
I want to create a web site.
I want anyone to be able to add content, be it a link to another site or they're own typed
in text. Maybe a video if they want to.
I'm not going to sell anything.
It's not porn.
I may want it to post ads to help pay for hosting costs or hardware / power costs if I host it
myself. Maybe I'll even make a buck or two.
But that's not the reason I want to do this.
It may have a blog or reddit / digg type of format. Maybe.

I guess that's it in a nutshell.
I know nothing about websites, hosting or creating. I've done some simple HTML before but
that's about it.
I don't expect you all to make me an expert. Just a small bit of advice. Maybe some links to
some good tutorial sites. That's all.

( obligatory suck-up
You guys rock.
You guys rule ( http://www.boredmuch.com/view.php?id=779 ).
You guys know all.
You guys have the force on your side.
You guys have super powers.
You guys can kick Chuck Norris's ass.
( / obligatory suck-up

Here's my question. I'll be Googling all this after I send this email off.
Do you know of a good hosting site that I'll pay for and has no ads or popups.
Would it be reasonable to host it myself? I have a pretty good machine.
Any other small bits of advice are also appreciated.

Thanks,
W-
