Back in 2001, attrition.org received an email from AnsMe.com requesting a link removal. As nice as Jericho was, more requests ensued. There's a reason why we call it "Wrath of the Impotent".
From: AnsMe Staff To: jericho@attrition.org Date: Thu, 29 May 2003 18:53:06 -0700 Subject: Web Site Dear Jeremy, I e-mailed you a while back concerned your site I asked if you could remove my name and put "AnsMe" or something in its place. You went through each page, and replaced my name with "AnsMe Staff", and I appreciate that. However, I found that the main page still contains my name both in the URL, and in the page itself. I don't work with AnsMe anymore, and would not like my name put there in any relation to them. The problem arises that if you search for my name on Google, your site comes up as #1, and I'm being hurt for something I was told to do by that company. Is their a way I could just have my name removed from the main page as well (from both the URL, and the page itself)? I would really appreciate that. Thank you very much for your time. Best Regards, (redacted)

I would really appreciate that. While I appreciate the fact you were doing as your company was told, the mail (after the first) clearly goes above and beyond what AnsMe told you to say, else their lawyers would have contacted us. If you would like to write me mail and explain that you were writing on behalf of AnsMe, and only trying to protect their interest, i'd likely put it up as #11 in the e-mail thread. I'm afraid that is the best I can do without violating the integrity of our site. If I start heavily editing the content, people will not see the problem of lawsuit happy threats and the kind of grief free websites endure. How would you feel if people threatened a hobby website you sunk countless hours into on a routine basis? Saying they would take all of your money, get you forcibly shut down, and even threaten physical violence? I want to make sure the world knows that it does happen.

Its been almost a year now so I e-mailed the people at AnsMe and they told me they never got your e-mail. Could you e-mail them (asking wither I was being told to write that stuff, or wrote it without permission)? I would really like my name cleared. Thank you again for your time.
