Subject: why when u bid second time does it raise bid u r bidding against ur self

please advise why when i went out on ebay overbid the current bidder on item  as 
i recall my then current bid was 37.66 with more than 2 hrs left i went back in 
and bid again say 10 mins later to raise my maxiuim bid, it raised my current bid 
price by 34 cents , no one elese had bid other than myself. a favor of a reply 
wopuld be appreciated
