How can I find the embedded serial number I need to re-install my
software on a new computer.  I have lost the information provided by the
company and they want me to pay for a new license.  Can you help?

Sounds like a scam to me. I bet this was Microsoft wasn't it! They really use disappearing ink and a specially designed paper that makes you more prone to throw it away as 'junk', all in attempts to make you buy more software.
