Can anyone confirm this officially and/or provide additional information on this item 'making the rounds' of the VFMAC Alumni community at the moment? Thanks. Of course, I will post any official response / acknowledgement regarding this item if/when received. - -- Rick '90 '92C Sticklist Administrator - --- Just because i'm near the punchbowl doesn't mean I'm also drinking from it. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2.0.18 (Darwin) Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org iEYEARECAAYFAlA6XagACgkQKWZyO29ebPZxJACaA3sLj+4LfzcX52d7XeYm49m6 f7IAn3jIUM2Uif2OA9Py3swSVk9u6F3h =od/G -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- From rforno at infowarrior.org Sun Aug 26 19:49:06 2012 From: rforno at infowarrior.org (Richard Forno) Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2012 20:49:06 -0400 Subject: [sticklist] - Leadership Changes at VFMAC Message-ID: <33DF673A-CB9E-41D1-A6AA-A1659A59C587@infowarrior.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Dear Sticklist readers, Following is an update to my note from earlier today: It is my understanding that LTC Shawn Phillips, USA (Ret) '88, Superintendent of VFMAC, indeed is departing from the Forge. Moreover, I also understand that although his previously announced departure was to be in 2013 and after this coming academic year, the President of VFMAC, COL (Dr) David Gray, USA (Ret), also is departing VFMAC. (I believe both departures are effective immediately -- however that has not been confirmed yet.) I reached the Chairman of the VF Alumni Association Board of Directors this evening and he reports that official communications from the school about this matter will be coming out either tomorrow or Tuesday of this week. As always, I will pass along any official information or clarification about these items if/when received from the school. Gray, Ph.D., USA (Ret.) as President, effective immediately. Colonel Gray had previously announced his intention to retire in June 2013, but he and the Board mutually agreed that a more immediate timetable is in the best interest of the institution. "For personal reasons, I have decided that it is best for both me and Valley Forge that I move to the next phase of my career now," said COL Gray. "It has been a distinct honor to work with our young cadets and to educate and shape their character development during my time as President." "We thank David Gray for his leadership as President and we respect his decision to move on at this time," said William R. Floyd, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "By acting decisively now, we have the opportunity to move aggressively forward in the continuing evolution of this great institution. We're confident that the future of Valley Forge is bright." Colonel James J. Doyle, USMC (Ret.), who previously has served as Superintendent at VFMA&C, will fill the role of interim President. The Board of Trustees have already commenced the search process to recruit and hire a new President to replace Colonel Gray. The search committee includes members of the Board of Trustees and key leaders within the Valley Forge senior administration. The committee will soon retain an executive search firm to conduct a national search for a new President. "It's an honor to be asked to serve again at Valley Forge," said Col. Doyle. "To be entrusted with the stewardship of VFMA&C during this transitional phase is humbling. My goal is to serve in the best interests of the cadets and their parents, the faculty and staff and the alumni." Formerly the Superintendent, a Vice President and Dean of the Academy, Doyle originally joined the VFMA&C staff in 2003. A retired United States Marine Corps Colonel and businessman, he brings tremendous professional expertise to the school. A highly decorated war veteran, Doyle served in combat during Vietnam, Panama, Desert Shield and Desert Storm; he also commanded the Marine landing force which evacuated the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, Somalia. His military decorations include 3 Legions of Merit, 2 Bronze Stars, and 2 Defense Meritorious Service Medals. Doyle holds a bachelor's degree in history from Stonehill College, North Easton, MA, and two advanced graduate degrees in Management from Salve Regina College, Newport, RI; and Strategic Studies and Defense Decision Making, Naval War College, Newport, RI. "Col. Doyle's successful seven year tenure at Valley Forge serving as Superintendent, coupled with his superb record as a military leader and his outstanding performance as an educator, make him by far the best selection as the interim Head of Schools of Valley Forge," said Floyd, Chairman of the Board of Trustees. "He takes on this important position with my total support and confidence." -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2.0.18 (Darwin) Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org iEYEARECAAYFAlA7/UsACgkQKWZyO29ebPYmAwCdGnRyH0vyPVE/M2D+rAfVPpCO 4hcAoMF0L5IbxZdVw7hCal7ofkpiaizy =xMMM -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
