However, in the absence of an official announcement by the school, and given the significant interest in this topic by the Alumni community at large, I am passing along the following UNOFFICIAL information supposedly regarding our new Commandant that is making its rounds this week. It is my understanding that the new Commandant of Cadets, Col. Dan Lentz, USAF (Ret), reported for duty at VFMAC about a week ago. I'm not sure what his service background is, although it appears that most recently he was the Professor of Aerospace Science at Virginia Tech (similar to the Army ROTC Professor of Military Science) and Commander of AFROTC Detatchment 875 at VA Tech. Again, I have *no official corroboration or substantiation* of this information, so feel free to take this information as you will. Rest assured, I will relay to you any formal announcement by the school regarding our new Commandant if/when it becomes publicly available. Lentz to the position of Commandant of Cadets, VFMA&C. Colonel Lentz brings a wealth of experience in education, regimental systems, and military service to Valley Forge Military Academy & College. Colonel Daniel P. Lentz most recently served as Commander and Professor of Aerospace Studies at AFROTC Detachment 875, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). In this capacity he led a staff of eight personnel responsible for the recruiting, university level instruction, counseling, and program administration associated with 260 Air Force officer candidates. Colonel Lentz is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Pleasant Hills, Pa. in 1974. The colonel earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned from the United States Air Force Academy in 1978. Following the United States Air Force Academy Colonel Lentz was educated at the Squadron Officer School (1984); he earned his Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from Webster University (1986), attended the Air Command & StaffCollege (1992) and finally the Air War College (non-resident) (1996). Working his way through the ranks since 1978, Colonel Lentz was promoted to Colonel on July 1, 2000. His many decorations include Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Aerial Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Armed Forces Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He retired from active duty on June 1, 2008. Colonel Lentz is a master navigator with over 4,200 hours in the C-130. As commander of the 61st Airlift Squadron he led the C-130 unit through deployments supporting peacekeeping and combat operations in Southwest Asia and the Former Yugoslavia region. In his tenure as Deputy Commander 86th Operations Group he oversaw European-theater airlift, aero medical evacuation and operational support airlift missions using assigned C-130, C-9, C-20, C-21, and C37 aircraft. As commander the Spanish-based Air Mobility Squadron he directed en route maintenance and recovery support for transiting mobility assets supporting military operations in Afghanistan andIraq.
