In slightly over *ONE* WEEK, we have received a number of outright gifts and pledges that bring our current total to $2,600. That represents 58% of our goal of $4,500. We want to thank the generous donors who have supported the project thus far: Joseph Allen '86C Tom Balish '78 '80JC Rick Forno '90 '92C Peter Gioe '88 Paul McKenna '79JC Darryl Murphy '81 George Newell '53 Pat and Patti Picone John Rapp '74JC Susan Rapp Angelo Santella '75JC John Steele Dan Wolfe '74 '76JC Claude Wright '66 Jack Wyatt '57 We hope that you will support this project to replace the old, worn choir robes that currently are in use. The goal is to purchase 50 new robes to accommodate the Chaplain's and Choirmaster's efforts to recruit additional choir members. The price of each robe is $90. Please assist us in this important effort to maintain the level of tradition that is important to all Alumni. Your check, made payable to VFMAC Foundation, with a notation that it is for the Choir Robe Project, should be sent directly to Colonel John E. Steele, VFMA, Chaplain at 1001 Eagle Road, Wayne, PA 19087. Great job to all involved.....see what alums can do? --rick '90'92C The Choir Robe Project Has Met its Goal! Dear Alumni and Friends, It is our great pleasure to inform you that the Choir Robe Project has met its goal! In fact, we learned late today that we exceeded the amount by a few hundred dollars needed to purchase all fifty choir robes. Therefore, the administrators and moderators who all donated to the project have allocated their gifts to the Chaplain for his efforts to re-leather the 1961 Moller pipe organ that is in serious need of repair. Anyone who wishes to still make a gift may do so and have it directed to the efforts to restore this magnificent instrument. We want to thank all of the donors to this important project. Your support has amply demonstrated your desire that Valley Forge maintain the wonderful pageantry that is synonymous with the Chapel services. Thank you. A list of all of the donors will be made as soon as our acknowledgements have been sent to each. Again, thank you for your most generous support of this project. Courage, Honor, Conquer. I have held both of these positions before, but this time with much more controversy. Many Alumni, myself included, have felt that there has been a serious erosion of the Values, Traditions and essence of our Alma Mater. While there is yet a long way to go, I think that many of us have experienced a sense of hope with the appointment of Tom Medearis as Commandant. My service to the Alumni Association has been driven solely by my wanting to do the very best for the Alumni and our Alma Mater. My motives have only been selfish to the extent of my sincere dedication to the principles that were instilled in us by our families and reinforced by our experiences at Valley Forge. That is what has motivated me and so many others in the pursuit of re-establishing Valley Forge Military Academy and College as the finest institution of its kind as one that we attended and wish to see future Alumni attend. But, these past two years have taken a toll on me and my family. As I consider the possibility of serving another year of intense activity at the Forge, I realize that I cannot commit the time and resources that are necessary to do the job. Therefore, I respectfully decline the nomination of Chairman of the Alumni Association for the coming year. I am truly grateful for the support that you have shown me and, most especially, for the friendship that you have extended. Please accept my best wishes to the AABOD, its officers, and to the dedicated ALUMNI of VFMA&C. Yours in service, John R.
