Greetings --

Late this afternoon, the following message was distributed to parents of VF
cadets by Greg Potts, the Director of Enrollment Management. We received
it from a current parent, and believe it important to pass it along to the
VF alumni community as an item of interest.

Cheers,

Dear All,

We have announced this date that VFMA&C will end participation in the
United States Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC). VFMA&C
has fostered a mutually beneficial relationship between the Army and its
Corps of Cadets over the years. This was a tough, but necessary decision.
This decision in no way should be misconstrued as an effort to deemphasize
our military program at Valley Forge, but rather a reallocation of
resources.

Unlike public schools, the Corps of Cadets at VF is led, trained and
administered by our VF Commandant and his staff, not by the JROTC. For a
number of years the JROTC program at VF focused on teaching life-skills
programs to the cadets in the Academy. Because VFMA&C has increased its
emphasis on leadership and character development throughout its Corps in
recent years, the school determined that the JROTC Program is no longer an
essential part of the curriculum.

We intend to nurture our important relationships with the Army in ways that
are most beneficial to both of our institutions. We will also continue the
employment of the JROTC staff as appropriate in order to preserve important
programs such as rope courses, repelling, and rifle team and drill
competitions.

We recognize the value which JROTC provided in the past and we appreciate
its numerous contributions to Valley Forge over the years. We are
confident that this is the right decision for Valley Forge moving forward.
