Mario J. Boiardi '44, TAPS
 
We are sad to inform you that Mario J. Boiardi, ?44 passed away on
Saturday, November 24, in Queenstown, MD.  Mario was a member of the Valley
Forge Foundation Board of Trustees for ten years beginning in 1985.  He was
named an Honorary Life Trustee in 1996.  Mario was born on May 5, 1926, in
Cleveland, OH.  His father, Hector Boiardi was the founder of Chef
Boy-ar-dee, one of the first packaged Italian food businesses in the
nation.  He graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a BA in
1949.  During his career he served as Chairman, Boiardi Products, Corp.,
Queenstown, Maryland.  He also served as President and Chairman of
Tran?Saver Corporation and Computer Security Corporation.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be determined.
A memorial service will be held at Valley Forge Military Academy & College
on Mothers? Day (details to follow).  Condolences may be sent to his wife
Maureen (Mo) at 3105 Bennett Point Road, Queenstown, MD 21658.

Following  is a special message from Phil Evans, Director of Music at
VFMA&C:
 
During the last 4 months the Band and DBC have done an outstanding job with
their musical abilities.  The DBC are sounding, already, better than they
did at the end of the last school year and have represented themselves in
the best possible way.  They have performed for two or three engagements
outside of the school and were placed in second place in the York
Fireman?s Parade.  I am looking forward to the Christmas Concert and the
next coming semester.
 
The Regimental Band has also risen to the high demands that have been put
on them.  The Harrisburg Horse Show was an outstanding success with
comments stating that it was the best performance in years and just last
Friday the Band performed for the Adjutant General?s Review (PaNG) and
yet again the Band performed with first class playing.  I was approached by
several top ranking military and civilian officials saying how fantastic
the Band sounded and even the Adjutant General herself came up to me on 3
separate occasions to make wonderful comments.
 
The Christmas Concert will be a fun evening with performances from the
Regimental Choir, DBC and the Regimental Band, so bring along your singing
voices for the show and enjoy a wonderful festive end to a very successful
semester for the music department.
 
The music department would like wish all the parents of the Cadets in the
Music Department a wonderful Holiday and a Happy New Year.

Dr. Ken Boyden named VP of Institutional Advancement & Development
 
It is with great pleasure that we announce the selection of Dr. Ken Boyden
as our new Vice President of Institutional Advancement & Development
Dr. Ken Boyden joins Valley Forge Military Academy & College as Vice
President for Development & Institutional Advancement having served as Vice
President of Institutional Advancement at University of the Sciences in
Philadelphia (formally Philadelphia College of Pharmacy) since 2000. At
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (USP), Ken lead a successful
Capital Campaign which exceeded the identified $25 million goal by raising
in excess of $30 million in cash gifts and additional support through
pledges, commitments, and planned/deferred giving. Dr. Boyden served as a
District Judge in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for twelve years and
brings broad expertise in charitable/tax-wise giving and higher education
leadership to VFMAC.

Ken earned a doctorate degree from University of Pennsylvania in higher
education management, a law degree from Dickinson School of Law in
Carlisle, PA, a B.S. degree from West Chester University, and an A.S.
degree from Delaware County Community College. Additionally, Dr. Boyden
attended the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University and
the Executive Program in Leadership from the Graduate School of Business at
Stanford University. Ken is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association,
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the United
States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and the United States Court
of Military Appeals.

Ken will join VFMA&C on January 7, 2008.
