This is not something that's been widely reported in the US media, I don't think.

... so if we're not having any "boots on the ground" (as if anyone believes that line, right?) does that mean they're heading over wearing sneakers?  

Riddle me this:  at what points do "boots on the ground" become "boots on the ground?"
