SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - More than a year after state agencies were caught 
throwing sensitive documents into the trash, two Illinois agencies 
admit they recently mishandled personal information about their employees.

The Corrections Department said its information breach involved 
"virtually all" of its 13,500 employees but would provide no details. 
The Department of Transportation said its problem involved only about 
40 workers and the documents never left the building.

[...]   In a letter dated Sept. 12, Corrections Director Roger Walker 
told Senate President Emil Jones and House Speaker Michael Madigan 
that a payroll report supplied by the Department of Human Services 
containing the names, salaries, and Social Security numbers of most 
department employees "was found at an outside location, where it 
should not have been."

[...]   At the Transportation Department, state auditors found 
documents in hallway recycling bins that included the names of about 
40 people and their Social Security numbers, spokesman Matt Vanover said.

"The documents never left the building and were not accessed" by 
outsiders, Vanover said. No state audit has yet been released that 
addresses the incident.

The agency knows who's responsible for the disposal but feels no 
disciplinary action is necessary, he added.

Documents obtained by The Associated Press show that after that 
disposal, IDOT lawyer Ellen Schanzle-Haskins sent a memo alerting the 
affected employees.
