Pages about security, movie reviews, poetry, statistics, and firearms are all available from the main page, but many others written long ago (and sometimes forgotten about, even by us) are still on the site. Despite our collective problems remembering every single piece of content on the site, we are constantly reminded of past transgressions, addictions, and general weirdness through the file known as "access_log." For various reasons, people far and wide use their favorite search engines to find something, anything, that will help them solve their "problem of the day." Every click on a link to attrition.org becomes a new member of our happy family, and that's where we come in, because we actually read those logs. We "just ain't right," but apparently many people who visit attrition.org have issues of their own to deal with. To break some of these down, we have specific examples of search queries that not only led the searcher to attrition, but may also show a little bit of insight into the weirdness of those who find us: Penis problems: c-67-175-196-144.hsd1.il.comcast.net - - [03/Jun/2006:22:29:30 -0400] "GET /misc/ee/foreskin HTTP/1.1" 200 12090 "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=my+dick+is+bleeding" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; America Online Browser 1.1; Windows NT 5.1; {708667E9-45D7-535A-16D8-661E3B91A025}; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)" Why is this guy not going to a HOSPITAL instead of finding us on Google? Since then through thick and thin, Jericho and the merry denizens of Attrition.org have helped InfoSec News grow to become one of the largest, oldest and hopefully most trusted daily information security lists on the Internet. Hosting on Attrition.org was really supposed to be a temporary measure, at least until we got our act together and started hosting ISN on our own. Now nearly five years later, we're finally ready to host InfoSec News on our own server, with a RSS feed, list archives, and plenty of room for hosting additional security lists and services. So this will be the last mailing of InfoSec News on Attrition.org and starting 7/10/2006, ISN will be posting from infosecnews.org On Monday we'll also roll out the new website, you may need to add the new address (isn [at] infosecnews [dot] org) to whitelists, procmail recipes or other filters. Thank you for all of your support! But the list has nabbed more members of Congress than it has terrorists. US Senator Edward M. Kennedy and US Representative John Lewis have been inconvenienced by it, and anyone named David Nelson is likely to face a major interrogation each time he flies. Federal officials make it very difficult to correct the list, thus tormenting citizens who are guilty of nothing more than having a name resembling a name suspected sometime by some government official. Hundreds of disruptions have occurred at American airports since Sept. 11 after security breaches set off fears of terror attacks. The subsequent lockdowns boosted local television news ratings. Though no terrorists have been apprehended, thousands of Americans have been arrested at airports for violating Transportation Security Administration regulations or other rules. [...] Federal officials have charged 10 times as many people in terrorist investigations as they convicted on terrorist-related charges. Bush declared a year ago that ``federal terrorism investigations have resulted in charges against more than 400 suspects, and more than half of those charged have been convicted." But only 39 people were convicted on crimes tied to terrorism or national security, a Washington Post analysis found.
