Gilian Technologies Names
Dr. Shlomo Kipnis Vice President of Research
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., August 24, 2000 - Gilian Technologies, Inc., a leading
Web security firm, today announced that Dr. Shlomo Kipnis has been named
Vice President of Research. Dr. Kipnis will be responsible for Gilian^Òs
research activities focused on Internet security solutions, and partnership
development with universities and technology think tanks.
Dr. Kipnis, an Internet security luminary, holds nine patents, has published
papers in numerous journals, and has presented at various international
conferences and workshops, including IEEE and ACM.
He brings more than 17 years of experience in security research and
development to Gilian Technologies, the company best known for its patented
ExitControlä technology that protects Web content from outside attack.

In addition to holding the position of Vice President of Research at Gilian
Technologies, Dr. Kipnis is an Adjunct Professor at the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, Israel, where he teaches and researches Internet security. Dr.
Kipnis also consults for the Israeli Defense Forces on system and network
security.
Prior to joining Gilian, Dr. Kipnis worked as Technical Assistant to the CEO
at NDS Technologies in Israel. At NDS Technologies he also functioned as
Technical Manager of the New Products Development Division and Chief
Knowledge Officer with a focus on broadcast, multicast, and Internet
security environments. Among other
executive-level positions, he has served as a research staff member for IBM,
IEEE and the ACM.
Dr. Shlomo Kipnis received a bachelor^Òs of science degree, summa cum laude,
in Mathematics and Physics in 1983, and a master^Òs of science degree, cum
laude, in Computer Sciences in 1985, both from the Hebrew University of
Jerusalem, Israel. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and
Computer Sciences in 1990 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
