Every barber and cosmetologist licensed in the state of West Virginia since 1986 could now potentially be a victim of identity theft.

Last Friday, Charleston police say someone broke into the second floor office of the Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists and stole a safe.

The director of the agency says the safe contains the personal information of thousands of hair dressers.

The State Attorney General's office advises each victim to file a police report then get their free credit report from the three credit reporting agencies.

Charleston Police say the suspect did not leave much evidence behind.

The board is in the process of notifying potential victims.
