The laptop stolen from the Booker T. Washington Community Center in Auburn was recovered Friday after a 16-year-old female tried to trade it at a pawn shop, city police said.
Cayuga County officials had issued a credit-fraud alert Wednesday because the laptop computer holds personal information from individuals who applied for Family Health Plus or Child Health Plus state health insurance program benefits.
"None of the data was compromised," said Wayne Allen, county manager.
No breach of confidential information occurred, police said.
Information from the pawn shop lead police to locate the teen, who still had the laptop in her possession, police said.
The teen, a resident of Auburn, was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Her name was not released.
