A Pennsylvania health plan is mailing letters this week to about 25-thousand patients whose medical records were on a computer stolen near Cincinnati.
Police in suburban Springdale say the computer was taken from Electronic Registry Systems in a Thanksgiving office break-in.
The company manages a patient registry database for Geisinger Health Systems. Geisinger is offering to pay for identity theft insurance for its patients.
Springdale Police Lieutenant Mike Mathis doesn't think I-D theft was the motive. He says suspects in other recent computer thefts wiped the hard drives clean and attempted to resell the computers.
