squirrel

Up

I noticed my squirrel on the lower ledge of the building next door. Started leaving peanuts, walnuts and pecans for him. Each day i'd wake up to find he had taken them. On April 1, 2010, I saw Speedbump in the open window looking down, and heard an odd chirping. Behold, squirrel had found his way up to my back ledge. Now, it is time to make him realize he is welcome here.

This is my neighborhood squirrel. I buy walnuts and peanuts for him, and leave them on his ledge. He was eyeing me because I was throwing peantus to him that day instead.

On April 5th, apparently he forgot which ledge had better promise..

Once he realized, he made it his mission to get back to the promised ledge.

Cautious, he watched me in front of the empty ledge. I threw down 10 peanuts, all but 1 landed on the ledge.

Not only did he take a recently thrown peanut, he stopped to eat it while I threw more for him. We are bonding.

Sometimes, Speedbump gets jealous and stands guard duty. He doesn't like sharing the balcony with squirrel.

I returned from the store to find that squirrel had been enjoying the balcony chairs while he feasted on the peanuts.

At the store, I got him peanut storage. Nice look, two holes for escape.

I set it in the corner near his ledge to start, and cut a hole in the webbing (that stops the cats from exploring the ledge). I wanted to make sure he had an easy route to his precious peanuts.

After feeding him, he ran around the corner. When i went out the front door to run errands, he was waiting for me on the ledge over the side exit door.

I heard squirrel chattering at Speedbump today. Herded the cat back inside and went out to say hi.

He isn't really scared of much. He came up (about 2 feet away) and took a peanut from the ledge.

He wasn't a fan of Speedbump coming back out.

When he sees me, he knows I have new peanuts or the rare spawn pecan.

After he takes one from me, he eats it at the corner of the ledge and then looks to see if I am still there, offering more.
