The staff at Attrition, have been called many things, obnoxous, full of ourselves, dictators, wankers,
lesbians and drunks.
this is all true......
so following on the calamari trail, we headed out on the wine trail. Well we just had to know what wine to drink with our calamari and on our off nights, pizza, subs and potato chips.
below is a list of wines and our comments, all these wines can be found at the local supermarket all under $10. apart from the (nz) reviewed wine as the price varies for example a bottle bought from the vineyard $8 the same wine bought at a supermarket $12 - $20 and in a restraunt $30 - $50
We the People and the cats at Attrition also have good taste.
Please if you have a favorite wine, send it to us. we will taste and post our comments along with your opinion Meanwhile my drinking buddy Laura sends me Womens & mens quote on wine. Catogories of Wine ================================================================ White wine & misc
Stonyridge larose Waiheke Island, NZ 1999
	No rating due to price
=	I choose to anounce this wine here as it is worth mentioning
		as it is so different.
a blend of cab sauv, cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec & Petit
verdot. it kind of tastes like not quite ripe fruit, i
supose tart. fruity and corky with a creamy aftertaste
definatly a must in any wine collection vineyard price is
around US$57.50 per bottle NZ$115.00 and is great for
drinking with any game. scotch fillet or venison.
when it has breathed a bit and you have a second glass you
come to relise there is a party going on in your mouth.
slow drinking wine that gives you a bit of a buzz after one
glass or maybe i'm losing my touch.....nah its the wine.

Napa Ridge - Cabernet Sauvignon Central Coast 1996
        10/10
= A very creamy smooth blend hints of my favourite...vanilla &
blackberry. this wine was enjoyed over several nights.
a definate sit back take your time, and mellow out on the
                taste of a fine wine.

Woodbridge - cabernet sauvignon California 1996
9/10 passes the cheapdrunk bit too :)
= all it promises to be, and with potential, needs to breath
when first opened. always a good sign.

Fetzer - Zinfandel California 1996
         9/10
= a dry red, tasting the blackberry, hint of hazelnut and
                vanilla, the
wine could be described as a blow-job, tasty, lasting and
leaving the roof of your mouth numb. yes this wine gets you
SMASHED. advice: leave the car at home. drink and dirnk and
		drink *hicup*

Atarangi marinborough - Celebre Martinborough NZ 1997
	8 1/2
=	needs to breath but goes well with anything you eat, it kind
of blends in with a meal, i was wonderig where the banana
taste was comming from within the wine and relised it was
the banana candy i had been eating previously. one glass and
i'm feeling a bit tidly already. very full bodied and rich.

Ravenswood - Zinfandel (VINTNERS BLEND) 1997
        8/10
= Ravenswood describes the Vintners Blend as having a rich,
		somewhat soft,
moderately complex, spicy, ripe, raspberry aroma. The
		flavors are those of
black cherries, mint and vanilla with a sturdy, slightly
		astringent finish.
The freshness and youth that is strived for in the Vintners
		Blend allows it
to be released with slightly less barrel and bottle age.
This is a dark red wine, not to be confused with the blush
		White Zinfandels.
                        = Review by Shane H.

Robert Mondavi Coastal - Cabernet Sauvignon California 1997
        8/10
= The vinilla and spices come through in the first glass very
smooth, great consistancy the bottle does not last to find
how long it lasts. you can drink straight from corking.

Corbett Canyon - Merlot California 1997
        8/10
= Very nice grape, hint of blackberry, a very light
consistancy, giving the wine a deseptive look. all in all a
lovely blend. NOTE: do not chill......chill=ikk.

Wyndham estate Bin 888 - cabernet merlot Australia 1998 (nz)
	7/10
=	You know i was going to give this a six but the aftertaste
is just divine, very creamy. it has a fruity aroma and it is
a dry wine medium bodied with a definate black cherry flavor
and tart when first opened. a bit to strong for the romantic
night but depending on your date if inexperianced with wine
it may not be to pleasing to begin with. definatly a cheese
and cracker wine, something the wine experts would be
pleased with. but the odd date may find a bit too much.

Jamiesons run - Cabernet shiraz merlot Coonawarra, Australia 1996 (nz)
	7/10
=	I once drank too much Shiraz and needless to say I havn't
touched it until now. A light Poetic wine, a must have for
		the formal occassion.

De Bortoli - Cabernet merlot Australia 1998
	7/10>
=	Creamy rich blend that gets richer as you go along.
the creamy taste subsides and perishes the more you drink
which is a shame as it starts off so well.
i let this wine breath 30 minutes to an hour before drinking

Canon Road - Cabernet Sauvignon California 1997
	7/10
= Fruity aroma, young wine with maybe another two years to
mature, of avarage consistancy, and a hint of blackberry.

Robard & Butler - Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot Chilean 1999 (nz)
	6/10
=	Full bodied creamy wine, no fruity flavour though.
at first taste the merlot comes through creamy & soft
as you go through the bottle (as it breathes) the richer
taste of the Cab Sauv comes through strong, yet still
retaines a creamy full bodied complexity

Callaway - Cabernet Sauvignon California 1996
        6/10
= rich & fruity no hints of oak though, not a bad drop
needs about half an hour to breath, drink for drunk factor
high indeed. took me two nights to write this one up, it
kind of hits you by suprise.

Tessera - merlot California 1996
        6/10
= rich & fruity blackberry flavour, thoguh not heavy in
texture. a bit raw. the blackberry is nice

Barton & Guestier - Merlot Languedoc France 1997
        6/10
= Very watery as in the opersite to rich, suprisinly this
merlot has body. This wine needs about an hour or two to
breath. becomming a dry and sutley sweet, with a
smokey/creamy aftertaste, making this a pleasent dinner
                wine.
Jericho liking a sweet wine and myself liking a rich
vanilla/berry flavour it is a wine we could enjoy together
                Bwahahahahahaha....
                                        =with complements from munge

Robard & Buttler - Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Auckland NZ 2000
	5/10
=	woow strong, yet not. Strong aroma and taste of smoky berry
full bodied, hint of sweetness, aftertaste of creamyness.
the more it breaths the more inclined i am to up this wine
to a 7. Definatly worth the price. recommended for the more
		mature red wine drinker.
down from the 1999 bottleing, but retains the potential of a 7.
		ref 6/10 1999 Robard & Buttler.

Collards - Cabernet Merlot Auckland, NZ 2000
	5/10
=	Blend of Cabernet, merlot and franc, grown in West Auckland
A vineyard i have never found comfortable entering, but have
heard rummors of good wine comming from within.
Truely not a bad drop, not as fruity as the bottle promices,
but not a disapointment either. a safe wine to run with.
Lovely aroma, full bodied. the wine lasted two nights, opened
which was a plesent surprise for you lone drinkers that have
problems completing a bottle in one night.
definatly desserves a trip to the vineyard.

Rsemount estate - cabernet merlot Australia 2000
	5/10
=	It doesn't promise the rasberry falvour it says it will
but definatly a fruity full bodied wine. when first corked
it tasted like candyfloss (cotton candy)

Lake Chalice Black lable - merlot New Zealand 1999 (nz)
Gundlach Bundschu - Merlot Sonoma Valley 1997
	5/10
=	Headache fodder. a rich blend, with suttle hints of berry.
easy drinking, goes well with the BBQ evening.

Turning Leaf - Merlot California 1997
        5/10
= A medium Bodied wine i agree, but no hint of oak or the
rich & fruity flavors the bottle promised. a definate
mushroom meal drink, a pleasent sweet young wine. no good for
                re-opening.

Ernest & Julio Gallo - Zinfandel California
        5/10
= This red was made with the white wine drinker in mind.
very sweet, my first thought was strawberries, a very light
smooth, young wine, should be chilled before opening. I am grading
this one in prference to a white wine, as it would be unfair
to judge this against the reds.

Forrest Glen - Merlot California 1997
        5/10
= Just the everyday standard, as to what to expect a red wine
to be. dark red cork, meduim/heavy consistancy, an aroma of
the grape & a hint of fruity flavour. this is what i expect
                from every bottle of merlot.

Bolla - Bardolino Italy Casa vinicola fondata nel 1996
        5/10
= My first example of italian wine, a dry red, served slightly
chilled or room temp, either or. lovely complement with any
meal. suttle flavors that hit the pallet as an after taste.

Fortant - Merlot South of France 1996
        5/10
= Excellent calimari wine, it is a lot like the Bolla
Bardolino, but more a seafood or even exotic food wine.
again very suttle in the flavor, a wine that can sit in the
wine rack and be bought out for any nice get together.
this and the Bolla would be definate all occation wine in my
                wine cellar.

Beringer - Cabernet Sauvignon California 1996
        5/10
= dark red cork :) great consistancy, very sweet and needs to
breath. i will get back to this one later tonight after it
has had time to breath.once it has breathed it is a very dry
wine, tasting the oak and sutle flavours of berrys.
this is the wine to get your date drunk on. :x did i say that?

Hogue - Cabernet Merlot Columbia valley 1997
        5/10
= nice aroma when uncorked, needs to breath, I found it
                plesntly dry.

Caliterra - Merlot Chile 1997
        5/10
= Not bad for a '97, 1997 never was a good year for red wine.
A fruity dry rich blend, pushing more toward a cab sav
drinker. I was plastered before i could finish the bottle.

Michel Picard - Merlot France 1997
        5/10
= mellow blend to be drunk straight away.
nicely presented bottle, good for impressing ppl or just to
go with an elegant decor with a navey blue and gold label,
very stylish. makes up for the lack flavour.

Queen Adelaide - Cabernet Sauvignon Australia 2001
	4/10
=	Dry and tart, for NZ$6.95 i couldn't go past it.
very strong plum flavour, medium bodied with a bite, that melts
into a smoother finish within seconds. the plum lingers. it shows
promise of a more tasteful wine once it has breathed.

Gallo of Sonoma - merlot Sonoma county 1997
	4/10
=	strong wood flavor being aged in oak, not rich in the
blackberry, rasberry & spicy vanilla flavors as promised
but then this wine has been uncorked for two days (left
over from a night of drunken debortury). leaving it watery
but still nice on the pallet. this rating may change when i
drink this in its proper state. all and all an easy wine to
		drink.

Pepperwood grove - merlot California 1998
        4/10
= fruity medium blend, can be drunk over several nights.
YES i have found the perfect date rape wine. a taste of this
and all you need is a light massage and you'll be putty in
in anyones hands. two glasses and i passed out under the
stars. could be the romantic blend or the date rape type.
as you can see i didn't give it a 5 or over as of taste but
the romantic blend makes up for the lack of flavor.

Chateau ste michelle - cabernet sauvignon columbia valley 1996
        4/10
= unmemorible, its somthing you drink, it tastes alright but
leaves no discription. it's a wine that will go with
anything. any meal so quite versitile.

Sunrise CONCHyTORO - cabernet sauvignon valle central 1997
        4/10
= still to young, good for drunk factor though, needs about
1/2 hour to breath. no flavouring comes to mind. very light
consistancy, but looking at the cork could mature into
                something better.

Barton & Guestier - Merlot France 1997
	4/10
=	tangy and sweet meduim bodied wine, ....very sweet
my opinion the wine is too sweet for me.

Mystic Cliffs - Merlot california 1996
        3/10
= a sweet wine, medium bodied it is not, not what the label
                promises. needs to breath

Stonehedge - Merlot California 1997
	2/10
=	could be drinkable if you have nothing else to drink.
very rich but at the same time bland if that makes sence.
left with the feeling there should be a party happening in
your mouth, but no one showed.

Deer Valley - Merlot California 1995
0/10 didn't even pass the cheapdrunk
= A very discriptionless wine...what is there to say, with the
conisitancy of water, and the look of only being bottled
this morning instead of '95 the grape bearly hides the taste
                of vinager

Hickory Ridge - merlot 1995
        -2
= I have tasted vinegar better than this. this must be the
only wine i have never finished, and i'm a lush.
definatly NOT a recomendation. and if anyone has tasted it
and likes it, they have no taste.

Corbett Canyon - chardonnay California 1997
        pass..All whites taste the same
= geekgrl can not taste the difference in white wines, and
therefore leaves this catogory to punkis.

Wild Vines - Blackberry Merlot
        NR
= when i first saw this wine i thought it was one of those non
alcholic wines ....buzzzz it has 6%. an unusual wine made
with carbonated water, and tastes like a blackberry
flavoured soda, which could be dangerous :)

Glen ellen - merlot California 1997

= oooopps..... have to do this one again :)

Villa Maria - Muller Thurgau 2000
	3/10
=	Gets better after drinking for awhile.
DO NOT DRINK first off not a wine to start on.
is fruity and quite harsh, but you get used to it after a
		few glasses.

=	review from manky & spanka

Villa Maria - Chardany Blanc
	6/10
=	Dry white, very pleasent, perfect wine to have with real
		chicken sausages.

=	review from manky & spanka
