What is a Scene Whore?
There are many types but we shall cover two.

The word is largly associated with women. Women are the more obvious ones,
although they deny the label, they make it clear they are not hanging around
to learn computers. 
Like all Scene Whores they like the media hype of "hacker" the secracy &
intrigue, although press meets scene whore and the whole world hears a hyped
up bullshit story of what a hacker life is all about.
I mean even if their boyfriend is a "real hacker" do you really think they
would let their girlfriends watch?.
For someone not interested in computers they would fall asleep or get board
within a matter of minutes. and how do they know their boyfriend is hacking
in the first place?
perfect example: I had a neibour unexpectly drop in while i was in the
middle of updating information on one of my accounts. not being able to
access a certain file, I mumbled to myself "i can soon change that"
switching screens logged in as root and changed perms. My neibour noticing
the "hacker" article laying on the floor next to me, wide eyed told my
roommate she just watched me hack. Not only was that comment unfounded, but
if my roommate was so much as to even think i hacked, would string me up by
balls i don't have and shoot me.
it's sad but true.
most of these girls/women like the thrill & excitement of the "underground"
and maybe they dream of one day meeting and marrying the next Bill Gates.

There are also the men, these guys are harder to spot.
they sit on IRC channels talking about their k-rad machines & leet warez,
they know enough to get by, they need to as they don't want to be titled a
lamer.
I have meet men on line from two years ago and i have achieved more than
them. most of them wouldn't know how to do a DNS lookup to save themselves,
Yet they are the first to discriminate and call people trying to learn
"lamers".
You can even ask a questen on anything in their so called 'expertise' to
find they go silent. They are the first to boot a so called lamer for trying
to learn something yet they themselves are unprepared to learn or teach and
even go so far as to change the topic of flame/discourage others trying to
help. and it gets worse they try to discredit the true hackers/professionals
with unfounded rumors and gossip.
these scene whores are by far the worst. they are hypocrites and should be
shot.

Where do these Scene Whores hang out?
you find them on technical irc channels and computer conventions.
Groupies for better word.

Techincal IRC channels are a place online people with simular interests can
idle, take a break from working in the computer field and hang out, discuss
news or projects they are working on.
It is not a place for people to constantly discuss their sex lives and pick
up people.....i think thats what AOL is for.
it is also not a place to pretend your more elite than everyone else.
I believe there would be about 10 people in the whole computer industry that
are elite, anyone else using that word to discribe themselves again should
be shot.

here is a test for you:

THE SCENEWHORE TEST:

	1.	Do you personaly own more than one computer?

	2.	Do you personaly own more than two technical computer books?

	3.	Have you operated on more than one operating system, not
		including windows'95?

	4.	Do you know what an operating system is?

	5.	do you have Root?

	6.	can you name at least 4 different operating systems?

	7.	do you know any software language other than html & visual
		basic 5?

	8.	have you been to any computer conventions/seminars and
		attended every track?

	9.	do you know the four major components of the unix operating
		system?

	10.	do you know the comand in *nix o/s to display a listing of
		all filenames including hidden files?

These are the most basic questens to establish more on your charater than
your knowledge.

If you answered no to two or more questens you fall into the catogory of "I
don't know a god damn thing about computers. i'm still using AOL & what the
hell is *nix anyway?
