Beef Jerky

Tillamook Country Smoker
honey glazed beef jerky natural style
$3.59 for 1.9 oz
Tillamook Country Smoker, Inc.
Bay City, Oregon
www.tillamookjerky.com

Review - short ingredients list ... very encouraging ... quite tasty, a bit
too thick but good flavor. The label says, 'made from solid strips of choice
beef'. Who's choice?
My cellmate couldn't be bothered to comment ... a bad sign?

Robertson's Beef Jerky
Real Beef Jerky (as opposed to fake?)
$4.79 for 3.2 oz.
Marietta, OK
www.robertsonbeefjerky.com

Review - very dry, a bit too thick, not enough flavor
Bonnie says, 'freeze dried alpo'

Toxic Tommy's regular & hot beef jerkies
1.7 oz for $2.50
4.0 oz for $6.00
Wadsworth, Ohio
www.toxictommy.com

Review - Regular nice and thin, just a little too moist, but overall quite
good, excellent flavor, should trim the fat off first; we dug the
worcestershire sauce, but were a little concerned about the anchovies listed
in the ingredients list.

Brad says, Needs better packaging, but I like the skull.

Hot - 'Warning: Toxic' on the label -- Heeelllooo!! Actually, while it was
hot, it had a nice flavor. It had enough heat to give it some kick but not
so much that you couldn't taste the jerky. Again, thin, but just a tad too moist.
We liked the pirate skull on the label.

California Style
Natural Style Beef Jerky
Ceres, CA
$?.?? 1.0 oz
Review Bought this to eat on a flight at the airport. It had a nice
flavor and was sliced pretty thin. It was a bit moist, but it sure tasted
good on the plane when there was nothing else available to eat. While I
might not recommend it for everyday use, it definitely works as a snack on a
long flight.

Slim Jim spicy smoked snack
.97 oz $??.??
Review - a classic. Yeah, so it's not 'real' beef jerky, but who can deny
that this is one tasty lard stick?
The second ingredient listed on the label - mechanically separated chicken -
should be a big hint
and yet it has good flavor . . . and yeah, it is a bit moist, but it has a
certain 'je ne sais quoi' . . .
Tie-Dye Guy says, 'Mechanically separated chicken has never tasted better.'

Oberto Sausage Company
Cattleman's Cut Peppered Beef Jerky
8 oz. $??.??
Seattle, WA
Review - Wonderful peppered flavor but a little too thick. Could be drier,
but overall, not bad. The flavor goes a long way towards redeeming the
total 'experience'.
Tie-Dye Guy says, 'Where's the chicken?'
Chad says, 'It's a nod.'
Mark says, 'It don't suck.'

Any brand made in New Mexico
Approximately $1.99 for 2 oz.
Review - very finely sliced, very dry, rehydrates with saliva; right balance
of beef & pepper flavor. The
peppered was right good but the green chile was a little too spicy for me.

King B Naturally Smoked Meat Snacks
$2.79 for 2 oz.
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Peppered Beef Jerky
Review - too thick, too moist, something sweet and sticky on it - overpowers
pepper taste. Can't taste beef
flavor. Reminiscent of shoe leather.
Charlie says 'pungent, pugnant; tastes like horsemeat.'

Old Settlers Jerky, Inc.
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Covina, California
Mexican Style Beef Jerky
Review - almost dry enough; not quite thin enough; too spicy - residual burn
harsh; spice flavor eventually
overcomes beef flavor; rehydrates nicely; saliva brings up chile flavor;
looks a little unnatural.
Charlie says 'will do in a pinch'.

Robertsons, Inc.
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Marietta, Oklahoma
Real Beef Jerky
Review - nice pepper/meat flavor; a little more pepper wouldn't hurt; nice
and dry with nice rehydration;
could be just a little bit thinner; overall very good.
Charlie says, 'reanimated very well in the mouth'.

Jack Links
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Minong, WI (wisconsin?)
Beef Jerky - Teriyaki
Review - chewy; too moist; sliced thin; teriyaki flavor is nice, present but
not overpowering.
Charlie says 'has want-to-be-pepperoni undertaste.'

Genuine King B
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Gourmet Style Beef Jerky - Hot
Review - too much residual spice; nice and dry and thinly sliced but could
be a little bit more so.
Charlie says 'couldn't eat more than one piece at once.'

King B Beef Jerky - The Real Stuff
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Idaho Falls, Idaho
Ripple Style
Review - This was REALLY good beef jerky. It was very dry and very thin . .
. a sure-fire winner . . .
although the claim of 'ripple cut' on the label makes me wonder if it wasn't
intended to be a potato chip . .
.

Caldaho Bros., Inc.
RoadKill Premium Beef Steak Jerky
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Fountain Valley, CA
Teriyaki Flavor
Review - nice and thin; little too moist; nice teriyaki flavor.
Charlie says, 'I wouldn't cross the street for it.'

Pacific Coast Jerky Factory
Natural Beef Jerky - Peppered
$1.99 for 1 oz.
Ventura, CA
Review - too moist; too thick; pepper flavor hits late - TOO strong.
Charlie says, 'I liked pepper flavor, it blanked out all the bad parts of
it.'

Reinhold & Timko
Beef Jerky BBQ Flavor
1 oz. $1.99
Macomb, MI
Review - Good BBQ flavor, but a bit too moist and too thick. Pulled into
nice, small bite-size pieces.
Overall, quite tasty.
Tash says, 'Gimme more roadkill!'

Cattleman's Cut
Natural Style Beef Jerky
8 oz. $?.??
Review - Too thick, too moist, and yet i like the texture . . . the flavor
is nice.
Very 'meaty' . . .
Mark says, 'It's a little too easy to chew.'
Chad says, 'Scrumptiolous!'

Cattleman's Cut
Teriyaki Beef Jerky
8 oz. $?.??
Review - Good teriyaki flavor . . . not too sweet . . . nice texture,
despite
moisture and thickness . . . reminiscent of old lunchmeat . . .
Mark says, 'Teriyaki, in my opinion, is not a flavor that should have
anything to do with beef jerky.'
Ebel says, 'Mmm beef-jerk-alicious!'

Pacific Gold Brand
Hot & Spicy Beef Jerky Natural Style
8 oz. $?.??
Review - nice & dry but too thick. Slipper soles come to mind when trying to
chew through it. Nice flavor -
spicy but not over powering.
Al says, 'It was hot and horny, I mean, spicy.'
Smooth N' Shiny says, 'I've never been jerked off like this before.'

Bridgford Original Beef Jerky
Natural Style
Chicago, IL
1.25 oz $1.59
Review - This jerky can be summed up, simply by saying, 'You get what you
pay for.' I could tell this
wouldn't be good before I even bought it, but due to my dedication to
exposing the good, the bad, AND the ugly
in the world of jerky, I went on and tried it. It is TOO thick, TOO moist,
and has a flavor akin to rancid
lunchmeat. All I can say is, steer clear of jerky that can purchased at
Wal-Mart!

Lowrey's Big Beef
Original Flavor Beef Jerky
Albany, OR
$?.?? .40 oz.
Review - Kinda like a Slim Jim, only flatter. Nice spicy flavor. Think I
feel the heartburn coming on though. Perhaps that's due to the fine print
on the label 'premium chopped and shaped'. That probably should have been
a hint . . . oh my tummy . . .
Tie-Dye Guy says, 'Good chew . . .'
Chad says, 'It's just like when I was in the Outback, herding sheep and
fending off wild dingoes . . . '

Jack Link's
Peppered Beef Jerky
Minong, WI
$1.79 1.0 oz
Review - tastes fishy . . . 'nuff said . . .

Enjoy Gourmet Brand Beef Jerky
Old Fashion
Enjoy Foods International
Fontana, CA
$5.12 4.0 oz.
Review - Wonderful peppered flavor. Nice and dry. Could be a little thinner,
but overall, a very good
'experience'. Although, the print on the bag that says 'Made from Solid
Pieces of Beef' has to make you
wonder what the alternative would be . . .

Fat Daddy's Beef Jerky
Phoenix, Arizona
$?.??
Review - This homegrown jerky was one of the best I've had in awhile. I met
the gentleman that makes it at a
backyard barbecue. He assured me that it was made from an old family
recipe. Wonder if his family is looking
for any new 'kids' to adopt . . . The jerky was nice and dry and had a
really nice flavor that while tasty,
did not overpower the natural flavor of the meat. It was definitely a nice
balance. My personal preference
would be for it to have been sliced just a tad thinner, but that minor
detail doesn't create a dent in the
party my taste buds had.

Wind River Jerky Company
Buffalo Jerky
Peppercorn
Orem, Utah
$8.00 77 grams
Review - Now THIS was interesting jerky. It was quite tasty and although it
was kind of moist for jerky, it
was quite good. I felt like one of the plains Indians in days of old eating
this . . . I definitely recommend
trying this one for an unusual jerky 'experience'.

Henderson's Original Lean Beef jerky

Geekgrl says - suprisingly spicey, but to dry & would never sustain a long
journey. not chewy enough.

Unusual Jerky's . . .

Oh Boy! Oberto Natural Style Turkey Jerky
Peppered
Seattle, WA
.94 oz. $1.59
Review - So THIS is what happened to those leftovers from Thanksgiving. The
texture isn't too bad, although
it could stand to be a little drier, just like your Aunt Madge's holiday
turkey was . . . To its credit, it is
cut up in small bite size pieces. But when all is said and done, it DOES
taste like turkey. I'm not sure
what the advantage is to turkey jerky. It appears to be just as
nutritionally incomplete as beef jerky, with
a less satisfying flavor.

Glenoaks Food, Inc.
Sun Valley, CA
$10.00 4.0 oz
Review - This came from a roadside stand in rural Arizona. Not sure how it
got there all the way from
California. It was quite tasty and a nice alternative to beef. The flavor
was good as was the texture. Not
to mention, it made a nice chest shield for me as I tucked the package under
my shirt and sped off on the back
of a 1979 Yamaha motorcycle. Kinda made me feel like Kerouac 'on the road'
