From security@linux-mandrake.com Wed Aug 13 10:04:52 2003 From: Mandrake Linux Security Team To: full-disclosure@lists.netsys.com Date: 13 Aug 2003 02:08:27 -0000 Subject: [Full-Disclosure] MDKSA-2003:082-1 - Updated php packages fix vulnerabilities -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ________________________________________________________________________ Mandrake Linux Security Update Advisory ________________________________________________________________________ Package name: php Advisory ID: MDKSA-2003:082-1 Date: August 12th, 2003 Original Advisory Date: August 4th, 2003 Affected versions: 8.2, Multi Network Firewall 8.2 ________________________________________________________________________ Problem Description: A vulnerability was discovered in the transparent session ID support in PHP4 prior to version 4.3.2. It did not properly escape user- supplied input prior to inserting it in the generated web page. This could be exploited by an attacker to execute embedded scripts within the context of the generated HTML (CAN-2003-0442). As well, two vulnerabilities had not been patched in the PHP packages included with Mandrake Linux 8.2: The mail() function did not filter ASCII control filters from its arguments, which could allow an attacker to modify the mail message content (CAN-2002-0986). Another vulnerability in the mail() function would allow a remote attacker to bypass safe mode restrictions and modify the command line arguments passed to the MTA in the fifth argument (CAN-2002-0985). All users are encouraged to upgrade to these patched packages. Update: The packages for Mandrake Linux 8.2 and Multi-Network Firewall 8.2, due to improper BuildRequires did not include mail() support. This update corrects that problem. ________________________________________________________________________ References: http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2003-0442 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2002-0985 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2002-0986 ________________________________________________________________________ Updated Packages: Mandrake Linux 8.2: e00bc1b2aa638d0d92a0c96c491804c3 8.2/RPMS/php-4.1.2-1.2mdk.i586.rpm d477786ad6c7aef4efb9147d651c4f85 8.2/RPMS/php-common-4.1.2-1.2mdk.i586.rpm 41261cae7e3c26131ccb52f45f3114e1 8.2/RPMS/php-devel-4.1.2-1.2mdk.i586.rpm e7ad08fb40ea9b7a4973b9290fc9aa9f 8.2/SRPMS/php-4.1.2-1.2mdk.src.rpm Multi Network Firewall 8.2: d477786ad6c7aef4efb9147d651c4f85 mnf8.2/RPMS/php-common-4.1.2-1.2mdk.i586.rpm e7ad08fb40ea9b7a4973b9290fc9aa9f mnf8.2/SRPMS/php-4.1.2-1.2mdk.src.rpm ________________________________________________________________________ Bug IDs fixed (see https://qa.mandrakesoft.com for more information): ________________________________________________________________________ To upgrade automatically, use MandrakeUpdate or urpmi.
