Hewlett Packard will not be liable for any consequences to any customer resulting from customer's failure to fully implement instructions in this Security Bulletin as soon as possible. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROBLEM: Potential denial of service (DOS) attack via the telnet service PLATFORM: HP 9000 Series 700/800s running HP-UX release 10.30 DAMAGE: Denial of Service on systems running HP-UX release 10.30. SOLUTION: Apply the following patch: PHNE_12608 for HP-UX release 10.30 AVAILABILITY: The patch is available now. - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. A. Background Hewlett-Packard Company has discovered a defect in the telnet service provided with HP-UX release 10.30. Under some circumstances this defect could be used to cause a denial of service on the destination HP-UX release 10.30 system. B. Fixing the problem Install patch PHNE_12608 on all HP-UX release 10.30 systems. C. Recommended solution The patch is a cumulative patch and and fully fixes the discovered vulnerability. D.
