By courtesy of CERT Coordination Center we received the following information.

CERT Coordination Center advisory CA-96.13 reports a vulnerability
in the dip program that is included in most distributions of Linux.
Versions up to and including version 3.3.7n are vulnerable.

This vulnerability allows anyone with access to a system that
has dip installed to gain root access on this machine.

CERT-NL recommends to disable your currently installed version of dip
and to re-enable it only after you have installed a new version.

Additional information with regards to this vulnerability is placed in
the README file associated with the advisory. You are encouraged to check
on README file updates regularly. You can automate that process by using
the CERT-NL notifier service.
