Allies in the Rainforest -- connect & conserve Donors Success Stories

The following individuals and organizations have donated funds to the Rainforest Alliance's Allies in the Rainforest program. As a result of their efforts and those of many others who are not listed here, close to $15,000 a year is contributed to our locally based conservation partners. Through their efforts and contributions, participants in the Allies in the Rainforest program have helped save threatened tropical forests and wildlife.

Remember -- a small amount of money goes a long way in the countries where these projects are located. Every dollar makes a difference!

We Thank and Commend These Individuals and Organizations

  • Braymer C-4 Summer School, Braymer, Missouri where students made posters and penny cans and placed them in local businesses. They raised exactly $23.44.

  • Wilson School Second Grade, Westfield, New Jersey where four second grade classes held a Save the Rainforest bake sale and then voted to both add acres to the Cachalu Biological Reserve in Colombia and support the efforts of schoolchilren to protect the Mombacho Volcano and Cloudforest in Nicaragua.

  • Ikego Elementary School Second Grade in Japan, where students spent nine weeks doing research and preparing songs and chants about the rainforest culminating in a performance of "The Great Kapok Tree," a musical play about the Amazon Rainforest. The students raised $100 as a result of the performance and chose to support farmers living near Si-A-Paz International Park in Nicaragua.

  • Nikhil Addleman who heard about adopting acres of the rainforest from a contestant on Jeopardy and asked that her birthday money be used to add acres to the Cachalu Biological Reserve in Colombia.

  • The Glenview Community Church, Glenview, Illinois, where confirmation classes of 7th and 8th graders sponsored a pancake breakfast, and raised $100 to help protect an acre of forest in Costa Rica.

  • The Erial School, Erial, New Jersey, where 4th graders held a bake sale, and raised $300 to help support the Nicaragua and Costa Rica Allies projects.

  • Store owners Susan and Bob Williams of Appleton, Wisconsin, who sold "retired" beanie babies, telling their customers that half the sales price would go towards helping Allies in the Rainforest partners to protect the rainforest. Over $700 was raised in one day.

  • The Eden Prairie United Methodist Church, Eden Prairie, Montana, where $300 was sent to help the people living near Nicaragua's Si-A-Paz Park. The money was raised during a three month period through donations from Sunday school children in amounts that rarely exceeded $1.00. Pictures of rainforest plants and animals were displayed in the church, and a skit was produced showing how the money would be used, with children playing the roles of conservationists and farmers.

  • The Holy Trinity-Sacred Heart School, Dubuque, Illinois, where two classes of 1st grade children emptied out their piggy banks and collected pennies from other students in school. Each class put a container outside their classroom door with a sign telling other students about their plans to protect the Costa Rican rainforest wildlife corridor. In a month the two classes collected $108, all in pennies, for the project.

  • The Kenwood School, Champaign, Illinois, where a 3rd grade class built a rainforest in their classroom and gave tours to the rest of the school, and sold snacks donated by the parents. $130 was raised and then they held a car wash raising another $170. A total of $300 was raised in all for the Allies in the Rainforest program.
