Administrative Assistant

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has an immediate job opening for an Administrative Assistant at its office in Marina del Rey, California USA.

ICANN is the non-profit organization formed by the Internet community at the invitation of the U.S. Government to assume responsibility for significant Internet technology-management issues, such as coordination of the domain-name system, assignment of protocol parameters, and IP address space management.

The primary responsibilities of the position are to provide support to the Registrar Liaison and the Business Manager and to process information requests.

Major job activities include:

  • Process information requests via email, telephone, and fax.
  • Access and update information in computer files and World Wide Web databases.
  • Routine accounting and bookkeeping tasks.
  • Organize registrar data and office paperwork, etc.
  • Handle incoming telephone calls.
  • Prepare basic correspondence.

Qualifications:

Four-year college degree or equivalent work experience. Basic computing skills for technical office environment. Knowledge of Excel, Access and Word. Working knowledge of basic Internet services such as SMTP, Telnet, FTP. English language skills required.

Compensation and job benefits:

US$25,000-US$30,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Policy Analyst

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has an immediate opening for a Policy Analyst.

ICANN is the non-profit organization formed by the Internet community at the invitation of the U.S. Government to assume responsibility for significant Internet technology-management issues, such as coordination of the domain-name system, assignment of protocol parameters, and IP address space management.

Major job activities include:

  • Staff-level support for ICANN's Board of Directors, President/CEO, and chief policy officer.
  • Implementation of policy initiatives at the direction of the Board and President of ICANN.
  • Staff-level support for development of consensus-based policies through ICANN's Supporting Organizations, advisory committees, and constituent organizations.
  • Consultation with affiliated organizations, such as Internet registries, registrars, and dispute resolution providers.
  • Participation in online forums and mailing lists.
  • Representing ICANN at conferences and meetings around the world.

Qualifications:

Four-year university degree (or equivalent work experience), and relevant work experience. Basic computing and networking skills are required, along with a basic understanding of the Internet and working knowledge of basic Internet services such as e-mail, telnet, FTP, and the world wide web. The ability to work effectively in a high-profile, global environment, with individuals of many different nationalities and backgrounds is highly desirable. Also desirable are excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently, and good organizational instincts.

Fluency in the English language is required; proficiency in one or more additional languages is very desirable.

US$40,000-US$80,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Registrar Liaison

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has an immediate job opening in its registrar liaison department at its office in Marina del Rey, California USA.

Major job activities include:

The registrar liaison department is responsible for administering the accreditation agreements between ICANN and the accredited registrars, processing and reviewing new and renewal applications for accreditation, responding to inquiries from organizations interested in applying for accreditation, and handling inquiries and complaints from members of the public regarding the activities of the accredited registrars. Other duties include conducting compliance reviews of registrar web sites and communication with registrars to bring about compliance with accreditation agreements and ICANN policy. Currently ICANN has one Registrar Liaison; due to the continuing increase in the number of accredited registrars and applications for accreditation, ICANN is seeking a second Registrar Liaison.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have at least a four-year college degree, and preferably also experience in contract adminstration, a paralegal certificate, or equivalent work experience. Experience in customer relations would be useful.

Applicants must also have basic skills in operating computers and familiarity with the Internet. Experience with using spreadsheets and database programs would be helpful. Also desirable are excellent written and telephone communication skills, the ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks, good organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.

Proficiency in English is required. The ability to speak and read other languages is very desirable.

Since the position involves access to confidential and proprietary information about the accredited registrars and applicants for accreditation, the successful applicant will be required to enter an agreement protecting that information's confidential nature.

ICANN is a non-profit organization with a modest budget; accordingly the salary for this position will be in the range of US$32,000 to US$38,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
