When Washington Dulles International Airport opened in l962, it was the first U.S. airport built for commercial jet aircraft. Today, hundreds of millions of people fly on commercial aircraft within the United States, and this number is projected to
reach one billion people within the next ten years.
This vital national requirement -- to accommodate people for business and leisure travel -- comes with challenges both on the ground and in the air. Airports, therefore, have an important role to play in meeting these challenges by providing modern and well-operating facilities to handle increased airline operations safely and efficiently and to provide passengers the amenities they have come to expect.
“d2" is our commitment at the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to bring these needed improvements to Dulles Airport. At an estimated cost of $3.4 billion, this program will span the next six years and result in dramatic improvements to customer service for the traveling public.
