Unilateral Ceasefire (Story by Doctor Nuker - doctornuker@puckoff.com) |
Hijacking of an Indian airliner in December 1999; killing of 35 innocent Sikhs in the IHK; disposal of four Buddhist monks on the Leh-Kargil road; the sudden demand of autonomy by an unrepresented chief minister of Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah (an act of treason under the Indian Constitution) and then the smiling faces of the Indian top leadership, all appear to be ploys of the same stratagem. The unexpected and magnanimous offer of ceasefire by the Hizbul Mujahideen, has received a welcome reception by the Indians. This move, however, is a subtle attempt to strangulate the right of freedom of the Kashmiris. These events project an Indian plan to dilute the present freedom movement of the mujahideen by showing them a misleading path to freedom. Indian wants to portray at the global level that the Kashmir issue can be resolved by keeping Pakistan out of it. The Indian government realizes that it has to satisfy the world community in some way before it goes for more power, like the UN Security Council`s permanent membership. However, events should not be allowed to blunt the sharpness of the freedom movement. The activities of the mujahideen must continue till Kashmir achieves complete independence. Indian cannot keep Pakistan away from the Kashmir issue as the very genesis of the problem lies between the two countries since the time of partition, wherein Pakistan was deprived of its right to secure accession of the Jammu and Kashmir state. Indian should address the real problem if it wants peace in the region.
