Geometry for All: Multiple Approaches to Teaching Geometry
A Summer Institute, Open to All High School Teachers of Mathematics
"This training is aligned with the Kentucky Academic Expectations, the Program of
Studies, Core Content for Assessment in Mathematics and supports standards-based
instructional methods for all students."
Sheila Vice, Mathematics Consultant
Kentucky Department of Education
About the Summer Institute
The three-day institute is designed to increase content knowledge and encourage hands-on
teaching methods among geometry teachers. Another important focus of our institute is to
provide strategies to teachers for meeting the diverse needs of all students.
Activities presented during the institute are organized around for guiding
questions identified in the Kentucky Department of Education Implementation
Manual for High School Mathematics (Geometry):
- How do you relate spatial properties of points, segments, lines, planes, angles,
and solids to one another?
- How can you use appropriate tools to describe, sketch, and construct two- and
three-dimensional figures?
- How do you relate algebraic procedures and geometric concepts?
- How do you relate proportional and transformed figures algebraically or
geometrically, including figures in a coordinate plane?
Participants attending the entire three-day institute will receive a copy of the publication
Geometry Labs (Key Curriculum Press).
