SheaOn 20 November 1995, the Commandant of the Marine Corps approved the assignment of the AC/S C4I as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the Marine Corps. The CIO will serve as the Information Management (IM) process owner across the enterprise. Information is defined as any communication or reception of knowledge such as facts, data, or opinions, including numerical, graphic, or narrative forms, whether oral or maintained in any medium, including computerized databases, paper, microform, or magnetic tape. ALMAR 232/96 announced the assignment of the CIO and the implementation of the IM process. The Chief Information Officer's (CIO) first mission is to develop the Marine Corps' strategic vision for the future of information and knowledge capabilities. From a Marine Corps-wide perspective, the CIO will develop the capital Information Technology (IT) investment strategy that will support information requirements of the intelligence, operational, and staff communities. The Information Management (IM) process, led by the CIO, will deliver to the warfighter, supporting establishment, and external agencies information that is timely, accurate, relevant, and linked to the Marine Corps Master Plan.
