The BETA Society |
The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International (JDF) was
founded in 1970 by parents whose children were afflicted with juvenile-onset (Type I)
diabetes. This disease is characterized by the lack of insulin production by the beta
cells in the pancreas, and attended over time by serious complications that can include
blindness, loss of vascular and kidney function, and amputation of limbs. The founders of
JDF were convinced that the only way to cure their children was by supporting diabetes research. In the intervening years, because of their
singular dedication, JDF has given more money to support diabetes research than any other
private health agency in the world.
JDFs clear focus on supporting and funding research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications, has consistently pointed medical science towards avenues of investigation that have resulted in significant progress, developing important knowledge about this devastating disease.
The BETA Society recognizes and honors those generous friends who have included JDF in their estate plans through a bequest or other planned gift. Continuing the tradition of all those who have supported diabetes research through JDF since its founding, members of The BETA Society are helping to ensure that JDFs mission will be realized: to fund the leading diabetes research in the world in order to benefit the millions who are afflicted today, as well as their offspring in generations to come.
