Discovery Offers Hope of Diabetes Vaccine May 14, 1999—Today,
in the journal Science a team of researchers led by Ji-Won Yoon, Ph.D., and funded
in part by the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International (JDF) published successful
results in preventing the development of Type 1, or juvenile, diabetes in mice—a step
closer toward the discovery of a vaccine for this deadly disease in humans.—See full story. |

Jan. 99—The new JDF public service
announcement (PSA) campaign features the Foundation’s International Chairman,
Mary Tyler Moore. Mary, who has had diabetes for over 30 years, filmed the spot with her
friends Joey, 7, Samantha, 9, Jennifer, 10, and Will, 12. Video, storyboard, print ads,
and a new series of Web banners underscore the central message: “Insulin is not
a cure”—Go to JDF PSAs.

The Walk to Cure
Diabetes is a walkathon in 160 locations all throughout the year benefiting JDF.
