FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Indianapolis Colts rookie
running back Edgerrin James has been named AFC Offensive Player of the
Week following his three touchdown performance last Sunday in the
Colts 44-17 win over Philadelphia.
James was 22-152, 2 TDs
rushing and 5-47, 1 TD receiving. He totaled 117 yards rushing in the
first quarter, including a career long 62-yard touchdown run. James
has totaled 234-1006, 7 TDs rushing and 39-414, 2 TDs receiving. He
surpassed the 1,000-yard mark at Philadelphia to notch the 12th 1,000+
rushing season in club history, the 36th ever by a NFL rookie, and
became the youngest rookie to do ever do so. James is 18 days younger
than RB-Barry Sanders, who had his first 1,000+ season in 1989. He has
recorded four consecutive 100+ rushing games, tying the club mark held
by Eric Dickerson in 1987. James’ seven 100+ rushing games top the
NFL, and the total sets a new Colts rookie record (4, Marshall Faulk,
1994).
James ranks second in AFC
rushing attempts, second in the NFL, first in AFC yards, second in the
NFL, second in AFC rushing TDs, fourth in the NFL. He is the first
Indianapolis Colt to win AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice
in the same season. He won the award earlier this year following the
Dallas game on October 31. He won the AFC Offensive Rookie of the
Month for September for his three-game totals, the first Indianapolis
Colt to win the honor.
