Students at the Indiana
School for the Blind made sure Indianapolis Colts tight end Bradford
Banta knew how important he was to their school. They honored him
Tuesday with the Indiana School for the Blind Star Award
The award is intended to recognize
Indiana School for the Blind staff for meritorious service. Banta was
nominated by the students. STAR stands for service, teamwork, attitude
and respect.
Banta, who is in his sixth season with
the Colts, has been a regular volunteer at the school during the past
two years. He donates tickets and spearheaded the “Making Waves”
fundraiser to help raise for money for a new aquatic center and other
scholarships. Banta is a board member of the Indiana Blind Children’s
Foundation which serves all blind and visually impaired children in
Indiana.
Recently, Sporting News named
Banta as one of the top 99 athletes who give back to their community.
“I am honored to be recognized by the
students at the Indiana School for the Blind,” Banta said. “Those
kids mean a lot to me and I really enjoy the opportunity to spend
quality time with them. We have a lot of fun together and I hope our
relationship will continue to prosper in the future.”
