How it Works: |

You place a link on your home page to the vendor's site. When someone follows the link and buys a product from the vendor, you get a commission. It's easy, it's free, and you earn money on all sales that originate from your home page.
Want to create your own online store? Just follow these easy steps:

Register for an Account

| |
|
- Visit the vendor's Web site and fill out the application to become an affiliate. The first vendor to participate is eToys.
Click Here to register.
- Most vendors will ask you to make up a Nickname and password. Be sure to write this information down since you will need it later on.
- Wait for the vendor to send you an email with instructions on how to build your store. This could take a few hours to a week, depending on the vendor.
- While you are waiting, if you are not already registered as a Talk Citizen, Click Here to get your Talk City nickname. You will need to be registered in order to have a Web site for your store.
- When you receive the vendor's email, you will sometimes find HTML code you can copy and paste into your web page. Or, you will be given a URL to visit where you can copy HTML code for specific items to sell.

Build the Store

- Copy the HTML text from the vendor (either from the email they sent you, or from their Web site).
- Login to Talk City Home Page Creation Tools.
- You can either paste the HTML code into one of your existing pages or create a new page.
- To use an existing page, click the radio button next to the page you want to edit, and then click on the "Edit" button.
OR
- To create a new page, click on the "Add Page" button, give your page a name, and select an appropriate template. The photo album template is ideal since you can string together a series of store pages with its "Previous" and "Next" buttons.
- Choose any text area of the page you are editing, and click the "Edit Me" link.
- Paste the vendor's HTML code into the text field named "Enter text to be displayed."
- Click on the radio button named "HTML code - use this when pasting HTML code into your page."
- Click on the "OK" button. You should now see your page with the vendor's image or links in place.
- When you have finished, click on the "Done Editing" button at the top of the page.

Link Your Store into Your Web Site

If people can't find your store, they'll never buy anything there! The page people will see when they visit your site is named index.html. If you weren't editing your index.html page in the previous steps, make sure you create a link from that page to your store:
- If your index.html page used the Classic Bio template, the best place to place the link is the Favorite URLs section. Edit your index.html page by clicking on the radio button next to it in the Site Manager, and pressing the "Edit" button.
- Click on "Edit Links" in the Favorite URLs section.
- Enter the name of the link in one of the left fields under "Name."
- Click on the radio button next to "Link to Page on your site" and use the pull-down menu to select your store page.
- Type a brief description of your store in the "Description" field.
- Click on the "Done" button to save the new links.
- Click on the "Done Editing" button when you have finished.
