Technologies & Tools for Public Safety in The 21st Century
Conference and Exhibition, May 28, 1999, Orlando, Florida

Michael A. Parmentier, Director, Readiness and Training Policy Programs, Office of the Secretary of Defense, presented an overview of the ADL program at the Technologies and Tools for Public Safety Symposium sponsored by the National Institute of Justice, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Transportation. Mr. Parmentier's presentation includes video interviews with senior White House, Army National Guard, Joint Staff, Public Safety, and Law Enforcement officials explaining how they intend to use learning technologies to meet Public Safety needs in the 21st Century and exciting news about the potential for collaboration between the federal, state and local emergency response units.

The Vice President's Lifelong Learning Summit
Vice President Al Gore, Jr. convened a Summit on "21st Century Skills for 21st Century Jobs " -- a national forum organized to help working Americans get the skills they need to succeed and to ensure employers get the skilled workers they need to stay competitive. His address to the Summit attendees and thousands of satellite-linked participants worldwide is available here. At the Summit, the Vice President announced numerous new federal initiatives and programs, such as the innovative use of technology for training in the federal agencies, that would ensure greater educational opportunities for the American workforce in general.

Masie has been a major facilitator of online technologies since before the advent of the Internet and maintains an optimistic outlook about the potential for its use in distributed learning.
