A Californian girl created a diagram in 1997 about all her ex guys - they
all were part of the still rather small sized Internet scene. Later she
added the dates of her ex dates, the dates of her ex dates dates, anybody
who had some sort of intimate relationship with anybody on the diagram.
The diagram went way beyond her circle of friends, the regularly updated
diagram has more than 1400 names on it now - many among them are
celebrities and hackers.

Lish Daelnar, alias Crank lives in Santa Cruz, California and dates
mainly with hackers and console knights: she stands on place 4 with 24
relationships on the diagram regularly updated by herself - number one
boasts 43 conquests. By definition a line between two nicknames means "two
computer users got into a situation which made it possible to transfer
STD-s, but at least they had a wet kiss" - thus that doesn't mean they
fucked, but they surely have an email address, because that is the
absolute prerequisite to get on the diagram.

The first picture was created by Crank's ex guys for her. From that point
on she relentlessly collects information about the private life of the
subculture, and recklessly introduces the new developments onto the
diagram - if the obtained data is from a reliable source. Because of this 
she is loathed by many, she even got some threatening letters, although
the exact nature of the relationships isn't specified: a single kiss or
even raping could be behind the connection lines. The creator states that
exactly because of this uncertainity you can let your fantasy go berserk
about these intimate situations, or the diagram could help you choose a
relatively "virgin" or "experienced" partner. Like in all rainbow press
papers the diagram created in simple ASCII contains a number of real and
virtual celebrities.

Six steps from everybody

An article, which appeared in an issue of Nature magazine last year
writes about a Swedish survey saying that any two human beings can be
connected sexually with a chain of 2-3, but a maximum of 6 people. The
theory known as "six degrees of separation", which states that all around
the world any two people can be connected with a 6 component friendship
chain seems to be true for the sexual connection network, too. The
researchers say that the safe sex campaigns could be much more efficient
if they would concentrate on the few people living a hyperactive sexual
life. Every society has some of these people, and they have sex with a
lot of other people. They are the nodes in the network.
